“Great Hotel. Understaffed”

The hotel is excellent as was the restaurant food. Our suite was really lovely. What let the hotel down was the very poor service in the main lounge; we (and others) waited for well over an hour for an order to be taken for food and drink. What let the hotel down was the very poor service in the main lounge; we (and others) waited for well over an hour for an order to be taken for food and drink. This was entirely due to only one member of staff taking orders and delivering the food and drinks. It was so bad that the receptionist lent a hand. Not good enough for an hotel of this calibre.

Our five night stay at the Parador de Limpias, was a mixed experience of pleasure and frustration. Upon arrival, we were allocated a first floor room that immediately impressed our visual sensibilities with spacious, polished wooden floors, a heavy rug (mostly under the bed), a lovely view over the garden and surrounding woodland, and everywhere so clean, neat and tidy. When we went to bed and switched off the lights, and just as we were about to drop off to sleep, however, our aural sensibilities were to be overwhelmed by disturbing, invasive noises: the clattering staccato of high-heeled shoes, followed by the scraping sound of furniture being shoved across polished wooden floors then the indiscriminate and random thud of cupboard doors or drawers being opened and closed. All sounds amplified by the hollowness of the room’s acoustics. We asked if we could change our room the following morning. Immediately after breakfast, at reception, I requested a move, if it was possible, to the third (top) floor - in the hope of peace and quiet. Permission was very kindly and sympathetically granted and our luggage transferred. Peace and quiet, however, turned out to be a forlorn hope. There were no rugs at all in the top rooms to minimise and suppress the transfer of sound. As a result, we had four nights with fluctuating levels of anxiety as bedtime approached; sometimes justified other times not. The Parador de Limpias was immaculate with very comfortable areas to sit and read. Other key areas however - especially the bar and breakfast room - were understaffed in our opinion. Guests were often seen left on their own at the bar or in the breakfast room waiting for assistance or service. We would like to commend the maitre-de who was present at evening meal times in the dining room for his professional commitment. And two young female waitresses who, when on duty, displayed a genuine work ethic in the bar/ cafeteria, to ensure guests received the best possible service - despite often having to manage on their own - with politeness and enthusiasm.

“Could have been so much better, if only ...”

Our arrival at the Parador Limpias was everything we expected. A nice building with a grandeur fit for a king. After check in, we enjoyed sitting at the lounge with a glass of complimentary Cava. Our arrival at the Parador Limpias was everything we expected. A nice building with a grandeur fit for a king. After check in, we enjoyed sitting at the lounge with a glass of complimentary Cava. The very large bedroom with lots of wooden cabinets and an impressive polished wooden floor enhanced the experience. The marble bathroom fitted well into the experience. Staff were efficient and we appreciated the wonderful breakfast with its a la carte options. So, our stay could have been wonderful. Unfortunately, there were too many issues that spoiled the experience. Once we started using the bathroom, strange noises and an unpleasant odor emerged from the plumbing. When alerted to the problem, the receptionist did not seem surprised and he promised to alert the technical department. Its staff dutifully arrived but with a can with refreshment spray as the only solution. Late evening and early morning, the guests upstairs got to pacing across their room on hard soled shoes. Suddenly, the wooden floor was not so attractive any more. And finally (was it because we stayed there on a Sunday night), the dishes served for dinner were very disappointing. I have rated our stay 3 stars out of 5. A shame, it could easily have been so much better.
